Hi! It sounds like a bony bump. There are many different names for boney-bits growing under the gum depending on the location of those boney bits. In general, those bits are called exostoses or tori. They can be found along the outside surface of the lower and upper jaw, as well as the tongue-side of the upper and lower jaw. Sometimes, bumps of bone are even found on the roof of the mouth. Unless they grow very large and start hurting, or interfering with eating/speaking/etc., they are usually best left alone. They can sometimes lead to periodontal problems. If necessary or desirable, exostoses and tori can be surgically removed. For exact diagnosis and treatment, consult a dentist. Good luck

I have a clear protruding bubble the size of a pin head.. maybe a bit larger that started out with a little blueish dot on the gum covered by a clear hard bubble. Located on the outside below my second to the middle tooth on the bottom teeth. After about 6 mo. has protruded more not grown in circumference. Its very hard and still has the blueish spot on the gum. Its sort of located an 1/8 of an inch down from the tooth and in between the next one, not really on the exact spot where the root would be located. A dentist, not my own, saw it in Jan. 2011 and said just to keep a watch on it but didn't think it was anything. The hygienist had noticed it and called him in. Now it has protruded almost twice what it was. What could this be and should I get to a doctor, if so, what kind? Dentist, regular doctor? Where do I start?
